We are very proud to announce we’ve been nominated for the best 2014 Soccer Marketing Campaign as part of Portada’s 2014 Marketing and Media Awards! Our nomination came thanks to the soccer.com video we did in partnership with the popular Youtube band Tres Tristes Tigres, in which we promoted the FMF jersey sale in a humorous way after Mexico’s dramatic elimination and the hand of the Netherlands and Robben’s diving antics.
The idea was to react in real time to whatever happened in the Round of 16 game, tapping into fan’s renewed pride in El Tri, and doing so in a funny and authentic way by partnering with this musical trio from Monterrey that generated plenty of buzz with their World Cup “corridos”. Throughout the whole tournament, Los Tres Tristes Tigres gathered hundreds of thousands of views thanks to their witty commentary of Mexico’s World Cup games. For the decisive game, we knew we wanted Soccer.com to be part of the conversation no matter the outcome, and our collaboration helped us generate a great push in sales despite El Tri’s elimination from the tournament. After all, no era penal!
